Regulations
Civil Service is the system by which
classified public employees are hired and
promoted on the basis of merit rather than
political party affiliation.

Council Rules of Order
Edgewood Borough’s regularly scheduled
Borough Council meeting is held at 7:30 pm
on the third Monday of each month in the
Borough Council Chambers. If the third
Monday falls on a national holiday, the
Council meets on the following evening at
the same time and place.
The rules of parliamentary practice as
compiled in the most recent edition of
Robert’s Rules of Order shall govern Council
in all cases to which they are applicable
and are not inconsistent with the standing
Rules of Council, the Borough Code, and the
laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania..
Items from the floor and public comment
shall be permitted at each Regular, Special,
Business and adjourned-to meetings of
Council subject to the rules and
restrictions set down in the Rules of the
Edgewood Borough Council, adopted January 6,
2003.

Garbage is picked up on Thursday. In

Holiday Schedule.
2. When is bulk garbage picked up?
Every Thursday w/regular garbage. PLEASE DO NOT put
items containing freon out for the regular
garbage (air conditioner, freezer, etc.).
3. Can rugs be placed out for garbage?
In 3’ bound sections
4. Can sticks and trees be placed out for garbage?
Yes, no longer than 3” diameter and no more than 4’long
bound sections.
5. How might I get a
recycling bin?
Recycling bins can be purchased by dialing 412-242-2410
and are $20 each.
6. What is Edgewood's

do I prepare paper for recycling?
Paper can be placed in blue recycling
container, tied and placed on top of
container or placed in blue plastic bag or
paper bag and placed on top of container .

The Borough of Edgewood has
been designated an historic
district by the Pittsburgh
History and Landmark Foundation.
Dec.
1, 1888 Edgewood Borough
Incorporated.
Mar. 8, 1890 Edgewood's
first election was held at the
Edgewood Grocery House.
1890 S.W. Dermitt, was
appointed Edgewood's first
Postmaster and Tax Collector.
1891 Edgewood's first
school, a four room brick
building, was erected.
Dec. 17, 1891 Edgewood
Presbyterian Church organized.
Sep. 20, 1892 Cornerstone
was laid for first edifice of
Edgewood Presbyterian Church.
Oct. 6, 1892 Edgewood
School opened.
May 28, 1893 Dedication
of Edgewood Presbyterian Church.
1898 Spanish American War
troop trains went through
Edgewood.
Dec. 1899 School for the
Deaf destroyed by fire.
1900 Edgewood Civic Club
organized.
Mar. 12, 1900 School for
the Deaf reopened in temporary
buildings.
1901 President William
McKinley's funeral train passed
through Edgewood.
May 6, 1901 Cornerstone
laid for new building for School
for the Deaf.
May 14, 1903 Dedication
of new building of School for
the Deaf.
Jul. 2, 1904 Charter of
Edgewood Club approved.
1905 Brick and shingle
Station House erected.
1915 Edgewood Cot Club

1918 C.C. Mellor Memorial

1932 Stone Municipal
Building on Race Street
constructed by Erik Lawson. Won
a national award for beauty of
design - Clifford Lake,
