Bio Chief of Police, Sylvan A. Altieri

My name is Sylvan Altieri, and I wanted to introduce myself to all of you and let you all know how grateful I am to have the privilege to serve as your new Chief of Police. It is truly an honor to have been selected for this position by Borough Council.

I look forward to hearing your needs and concerns and working alongside all of you to keep Edgewood a safe, welcoming, and vibrant place to live.

Prior to coming to the Edgewood Police Department (EPD), I served over 25 years with the Metropolitan Police Department Washington DC, where I retired as an Assistant Chief in the Patrol Bureau. During my tenure in D.C., I worked as a uniformed and undercover officer, as well as a detective and Internal Affairs Division Agent.

As a peace officer, I am committed to professional service, fairness, and integrity. Our team will continue to work diligently each day to protect life and property, respond to emergencies, and build positive relationships within our community.

One of my priorities will be to ensure that we provide transparent, respectful, and effective policing to all residents and visitors to Edgewood Borough.

Public safety is at its strongest when there is a working partnership between the police and the community. I encourage all of you to engage with us, whether it’s attending community events, sharing your concerns, or simply stopping to say hello. Your input is invaluable and helps us to better understand your needs, thus enabling us to always improve our ability to serve all of you.

You can reach out to me directly at policechief@edgewoodboro.com.

I am proud to be part of this department and excited about the opportunities ahead. Together, through cooperation and mutual respect, we can continue to make Edgewood a safe and supportive community for everyone.

Thank you for your continued support of the EPD. I look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks and months ahead.
