Allegheny County Mosquito Treatment

Allegheny County Health Department’s Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program (BU 1224) will be conducting a truck-mounted, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray event on Wednesday August 12th, between 8pm and 11pm to decrease mosquito populations and reduce the risk of West Nile virus (WNV) transmission. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Thursday August 13th. Areas of focus will be the city neighborhoods of Lawrenceville, Garfield, Bloomfield, Friendship, Schenley Park, Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Edgewood, and Wilkinsburg. Recent mosquito samples from these locations have tested positive for WNV. The pesticide being applied is Zenivex E20 and is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. Zenivex has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and has negligible impact on non-target insects and the environment. It will be released at just 0.6 ounces per acre. Chestnut Street Bridge Repairs

PennDOT is conducting repairs on the Chestnut Street bridge. They will begin with sidewalk repair, with one side being closed at a time. Vehicle traffic will be open during this phase. On August 17, work will commence on the road portion of the the bridge, and the bridge will be fully closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. At that time traffic on Elm St will temporarily be two way. This closure is expected for 30 days. Please check posted signage. Construction equipment to be parked on Aberdeen to minimize resident impact on parking.
