PA Clearances
As a volunteer working with children in our borough, you must complete the appropriate state clearances so we can ensure a safe environment for all. Under the Child Protective Services Law (CPSL), adults (18 and over) who are responsible for the welfare of children or who will have direct and routine interaction with children must obtain three key clearances:
-
A Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification (through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services)
-
A Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Record Check.
-
And depending on your residency history, either a FBI Criminal History Background Check (fingerprint-based) or a waiver/disclosure statement if you’ve been a resident of Pennsylvania for the past 10 years.
You’ll need to submit these clearances before beginning volunteer service. They are valid for up to 60 months (5 years), so you’ll need to renew them regularly.
