On Friday, July 24 at Koenig Field, Edgewood Borough and Shaolin Studios present, ‘Shaolin Soccer (2001).’ This sports themed film is full of anime-like action and slapstick comedy. Please note that there is martial arts action violence, thematic elements, and some crude humor. The movie will start at dusk. Don’t forget to bring your blankets/chairs. Edgewood Community Day is just around the corner, happening on Saturday, August 29! The day begins with the Community Day Yard Sale from 8am-12pm. Activities at Koenig Field get started at 1pm. Community Day Yard Sale The Edgewood Community Day Yard Sale takes place from 8am-12 pm, from resident homes. If you would like to have your address added to the list of participating homes, please email office@edgewoodboro.com. You may include a brief list of featured items (optional). The list, as well as a map, will be shared on our website and Facebook page closer to the event. Field Event Head to Koenig Field starting at 1pm for food, market vendors, entertainment, games, and more! Activities for kids include pony rides, a bounce house, air-bush tattoos, balloons, and a SPECIAL FOAM PARTY. Test your (golf cart) driving skills with DUI goggles with the Edgewood Police or dunk an officer. The Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department will be there with the popular beer garden (21+). We’ll end the day with music from the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and fireworks display! Call for Artists! Submissions are being accepted from Edgewood artists of all ages between July 6 and August 14. Artwork will be displayed in the fieldhouse on Community Day (August 29). Pieces will be judged according to age group (outlined below), including a ‘community favorite’ award, with voting for that to take place during the event. Prizes will be awarded (prizes can be collected from the borough office within 30 days of the event, you do not need to be present to win). Submission parameters – Theme: “What does community mean to me?” Age groups: under 6; 6-12; 13-17; 18+ Pieces should be UNFRAMED (to adhere to display panels using Velcro). The maximum size should not exceed 20″ high x 20″ wide. Free standing works are not being accepted. Panel judging criteria includes creativity, interpretation, and technical execution. No explicit material; artwork must be suitable for all ages. Art must be original – no AI generated art. All art must be submitted by the August 14 deadline to allow adequate prep time for the event. Submissions should be dropped off at the Borough Office, 2 Race St, during normal business hours (M-F, 9am-5pm). This recreational league is open to boys and girls ages 4-12. Registration begins June 29 and ends August 7. Practices begin in late August/early September (dependent on coach availability). The cost for this sport is $70. VOLUNTEERS WANTED! Our leagues depend on our dedicated volunteers. We are always looking for parents or community members to help coach. You do not have to be an expert in soccer, and previous experience is not necessary. You just need to be able to be a role model and help guide teams through the season, provide basic instruction of the sport, and be ready to have fun! Clearances are required. Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a long-term ramp closure on I-376 (Parkway East) in the City of Pittsburgh and Edgewood, Swissvale boroughs, Allegheny County, will begin Monday, April 27 weather permitting. Starting Monday at approximately 12:01 AM, the eastbound I-376 off-ramp to Edgewood (Exit 77) toward South Braddock Avenue (after the Edgewood/Swissvale split) will be closed to traffic around-the-clock for bridge and roadway reconstruction work through late June. Please note, the ramp toward Swissvale will remain open. Traffic will be detoured. Posted Detour Eastbound I-376 to Edgewood toward South Braddock Avenue • Take the ramp on the right toward Swissvale • Turn left onto Monongahela Avenue • Follow Monongahela Avenue to the intersection of South Braddock Avenue • End detour
