Cancellation of Edgewood Baseball for the 2012  Season

Dear Friend of Edgewood Recreation,

We have received the unfortunate news from the Woodland Hills Baseball Association that most of the teams have dropped out of the league and thus, the Woodland Hills league will not be active for the foreseeable future.

Due to this recent change of events we have partnered with the 14 Ward Baseball League for the 2012 Season.  Learn more by reading the information below.

Please note that the Edgewood T-Ball and Softball programs are unaffected and will be offered during the spring and early summer months.

If your child is interested in participating in a baseball program this summer, the 14th Ward Baseball Association is currently accepting applications for individual players.  Fees are listed as $65 for 5,6 and 7 year olds, $85 for 8 and 9 year olds, and $90 for 10, 11 and 12 year olds, and include hat, jersey shirt and socks.  14th Ward Baseball also offers additional baseball opportunities for older kids as well.  More information is available on their website, http://14thwardbaseball.shutterfly.com

Deadline for registering your child with 14th Ward baseball is February 18th but you are encouraged to sign up immediately if your child is interested as there are a limited number of roster spots available.

Additional information, such as playing locations, season details, league organization, etc., can be found at  http://14thwardbaseball.shutterfly.com

If your child wishes to play on a team with his/her friends, the Squirrel Hill Baseball Association is accepting applications for both individuals and for teams.  Fees are listed as $100 (individual) or $600 (team) for 7 and 8 year olds, $125 (individual) or $600 (team) for 9 and 10 year olds, as well as $125 (individual) or $600 (team) for 11 and 12 year olds.

More information can be found at www.sqhillbaseball.org.

It is our understanding that the Squirrel Hill league will be more of a competitive league while 14th Ward Baseball will focus on the development of the players in an evenly matched atmosphere.

We are sorry for having to pass along this unfortunate news but wanted to provide you the opportunity to immediately pursue alternatives for your child.

Edgewood Borough’s Recreation Department boasts a year round sports program for adults and children, including public basketball courts, baseball and adult softball programs, soccer games, a running track, and modern playgrounds for family fun.

Additional programs include Edgewood’s annual
Community Days in August, a Haunted House in October, and a yearly golf outing which raises funds for Edgewood’s youth programs.

Our programs really focus on teamwork, leadership, and understanding what it means to be part of a team. We enjoy the fun of competition, but life lessons come first.
