Garbage Pickup

Garbage is picked up on Thursday. A holiday will sometimes shift the day to Friday, so please download the schedule - 2024 Garbage and Recycling Schedule.

Click here to view the 2023 Republic Services Recycling and Waste Guide.

PLEASE DO NOT put items containing Freon or heavy metals out for the regular garbage (air conditioners, freezers, etc. For those items, see the Hazard Household Waste section below).  Christmas trees will be collected at the curb in December, January, and February on regular collection days.  Additional details on yard waste are available below.

All waste will be collected weekly on Thursdays. All recyclables will be collected every other week on the same day as waste collection (see calendar).

Important Change to Recycling

As of January 1, 2021, Republic Services is no longer accepting any glass with curbside Recycling Collection. Glass has the tendency to break during collection and contaminates other recyclables with fine shards of glass.  Any contaminated items are forced to be rejected, and sent to a landfill. To continue recycling glass items, Republic Services has stationed a large blue dumpster in the parking lot behind the Edgewood Borough Building, 2 Race Street, for items to be dropped off at residents' convenience. This bin is located next to the paper collection bins.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please only bring your CLEAN glass recyclables, without lids, to place in the bin.

2.    Recycling collections will be “every other week” on the same day as your waste collection. A calendar is provided.
3.    On your scheduled day of service, place your recycling and waste at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. – late set out will be noted and may not be picked up.
4.    Holidays – the six major holidays may cause a “one day” delay in your collection.
5.    Waste should be in properly secured containers (60 lbs. or less) or plastic bags (35 lbs. or less).
6.    Hedge cuttings, limbs and branches should be securely tied and should not exceed 36” in length and not weigh no more than 40 lbs. Branches should not exceed 4” in diameter.
7.    Christmas trees will be collected in December, January and February.
8.    Bulky items/appliances will be accepted at curbside at no additional charge (limit of one bulk item per month). i. Carpet should be rolled and tied in lengths not to exceed 48”. ii. Tires will not be collected. iii. Empty paint cans and/or dried paint is acceptable. Paint can be dried by air drying or soaking up with newspaper or kitty litter. Lids should be left off. iv. Items such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers, or any other appliance containing refrigerant will only be picked up if the item has a sticker certifying the refrigerant has been removed. If there is no sticker certifying removal, we will not pick up the item due to laws prohibiting disposal without certification the refrigerant has been removed. It is suggested that you have the company delivering the new appliance dispose of the old appliance to save on the removal cost of the refrigerant.
9.    All recyclable material should be empty, clean and dry. Please rinse all food and beverage containers completely prior to placing in the container (for example, no ketchup or mustard may be left in the bottles). I. Recyclable items include newsprint, paper, plastic food and beverage containers, aluminum cans, steel cans, cardboard and corrugated boxes. II. Non-recyclable items include drums, ashes, tires, batteries, car parts, medical waste, liquid waste of any kind, paint and contaminated (uncleaned) recyclables.

Edgewood Household Hazardous Waste

Your hazardous waste and e-waste can now be safely collected from each home by calling 877-788-9400.

Look through your home for hazardous items that need discarding - everything from batteries and paint to computers and chemicals - and feel secure knowing Republic Services will handle these special items; protecting both you and the environment!

Residents who call will be asked to describe the items they want collected. They will be asked to use a special kit to collect the items, which will be delivered to them. Each kit includes a 42-gallon clear plastic bag and detailed instructions on how to safely package the items, along with a collection date.
